Skateboarding and Leadership Team

S.A.L.T. is an 8-month long cohort-based program that cultivates the leadership, employment- Readiness, and civic engagement of youth in the greater Tacoma community.

SALT ‘23-’24 is in full swing and we are no longer accepting applications for this cohort!

Please check back in August/September 2024 to apply for SALT ‘24-’25!

S.A.L.T. is open for any highschool-aged youth in Pierce County that can make the time and travel commitment to attend weekly meetings at Alchemy every Monday from 4-6pm with additional monthly intern hours.

We now have an option to apply online or you can click the link below to download the application and submit it in-person (at the shop) or email it to: spirit@alchemyindoor.org. You may also visit the shop and we will happily print you a paper copy!

Once you have submitted your application, we will reach back out with confirmation and to schedule a group interview.

This program is an innovative opportunity for youth to learn and grow through skateboarding.

S.A.L.T. engages participants in activities in which they might not otherwise be exposed to including: retail job readiness skills, art and design basics, and production/manufacturing skills.

Often the voice of youth skateboarders is not sought after or heard in the community. This program connects youth with community leaders and government officials, providing opportunities to share ideas and experiences while building employment and social skills which benefit youth long after program completion.

Some of the activities/Skill Building opportunities provided to Members of the S.A.L.T. program: 

• Skateboard Production - Learn to press and shape your own board!

• Logo Design and Screen Printing

• Skate park design, maintenance and construction basics

• Skate trips to various parks around Washington state

• Special workshops/lectures from local professionals (videographers, designers, community organizers, etc.)

• Design and implement a community service project: food drive, skatepark clean-ups, fundraising for other grassroots orgs, etc.
